This guide is for cases where Shadowrocket does not appear in App Store search on an iPhone or iPad, or where you can't purchase it from the product page. First, use the app ID to distinguish a search issue from storefront availability. Then check the purchasing account, age-rating restrictions, and payment status. Change one setting at a time and keep the original error message so you don't mistake an App Store issue for a connection problem.
1. Confirm the app and where the issue occurs
Shadowrocket is a paid client for Apple platforms, purchased as a one-time payment through the App Store and primarily used on iPhone and iPad. The developer listed on the store page is Shadow Launch Technology Limited, and the app ID is 932747118. Compatibility and system requirements for Mac, Apple TV, and Apple Vision are as listed on the App Store page. Not finding the app by name alone does not establish whether it is available in your current storefront.
Enter the full English name Shadowrocket in App Store Search; don't search only for its Chinese nickname. If it doesn't appear, open the App Store product page and check the message. The URL includes /us/, but opening it does not automatically change the country or region of your purchasing account, nor does it guarantee that the account can make a purchase.
- The page opens and shows a price: The product page is accessible. Next, check for account or payment messages during purchase; there's no need to keep trying different search terms.
- Message says the app isn't available in your country or region: Check the storefront associated with your purchasing account first. Don't start by changing Shadowrocket settings.
- No product pages open: Check the App Store connection, system messages, or a temporary store outage first. This alone doesn't mean that only this app is unavailable.
- Device shown as incompatible: Check the Compatibility section for your specific device and system requirements; this isn't a search issue.
2. Check the purchasing account's storefront, not the device region
App Store purchases are tied to the Apple Account used for Media & Purchases. The device language, its Region setting, your current location, and your network's public IP address do not by themselves determine the account's storefront. If different accounts are used for different services on the device, don't assume the account shown at the top of Settings is also the purchasing account.
-
Check the purchasing account
Go to Settings → Apple Account → Media & Purchases → View Account and verify which account is used for purchases. You may need to authenticate first. Never share your password or verification code.
-
Note the storefront
On the account page, check Country/Region and note the current value, then return to the product page and check the message. This is the purchasing account's information, not the device region under Settings → General → Language & Region.
-
Check the page result
Reopen the product page for app ID 932747118 and note whether the details load, whether a purchase button appears, and what happens when you tap it. Each result points to a different troubleshooting path.
-
Act only when the conditions apply
Change the country or region only if you genuinely need to and meet Apple's requirements. Account balance, active subscriptions, pending purchases, and Family Sharing status may affect a change, so review the requirements shown by the system first.
These steps use the English interface names; account paths and wording may vary by system version. If you can't open View Account, resolve the account verification issue first. Avoid repeatedly signing out of the entire device account to troubleshoot, as this may affect other synced services.
Bottom line: check the purchasing account's storefront
If the product page explicitly says the app isn't available in your region, note the Country/Region setting and the full message. Changing only the device Region or network connection does not confirm that App Store availability has changed.
3. Check Screen Time and age-rating restrictions
App Store content restrictions can affect whether an app appears or can be obtained. Compare the age rating shown on the current product page with the Apps rating allowed on the device; don't rely on a screenshot from someone else's device to set a specific age limit. Ratings and restriction options may vary by storefront, system version, and family settings, so this guide does not assume a single age rating for Shadowrocket.
- App rating: Go to Settings → Screen Time → Content & Privacy Restrictions and look for App Store, Media, Web & Games → Apps. On some system versions, this is under Content Restrictions → Apps. Check that the allowed range includes the rating shown on the current App Store page.
- Installation permissions: In the same restrictions area, look for iTunes & App Store Purchases → Installing Apps and check whether installation is allowed. Installation restrictions and age-rating restrictions are separate settings; check both.
- Family controls: Ask to Buy may require a family organizer to approve a purchase for a child's account. A pending approval doesn't mean the app has disappeared from the store; check whether the transaction is awaiting approval.
- Managed devices: Devices managed by a school or employer may have additional installation policies. If you can't change the relevant setting, ask the device administrator rather than trying to bypass the restriction.
Before changing restrictions, note the original settings. If an option is protected by a Screen Time passcode, have the authorized user or family organizer make the change. Restore any settings that don't need to stay changed, and avoid turning off all content protections just to check one app.
4. Use the error message to identify storefront, verification, or payment issues
An app missing from search results and a failed payment occur at different stages. These are examples of English messages you may see in the App Store; the wording can vary with system language and context. Keep the full message rather than summarizing every issue as “can't download.”
Error: Account Not In This Store
Cause and next steps: The purchasing account doesn't match the storefront you're trying to access. Return to Media & Purchases and check the account and Country/Region, then follow the system prompt to return to the store for that account. A region path in an external product page does not prove that the account has switched storefronts.
Error: Verification Required
Cause and next steps: The account needs additional verification, possibly for billing or an outstanding charge. Follow the prompt and check your payment details under Settings → Apple Account → Payment & Shipping. The system will indicate what needs attention.
Error: Cannot Connect to App Store
Cause and next steps: The App Store can't establish a normal connection. First, check whether other app pages load. Then verify the time under Settings → General → Date & Time and retry on a network you can use. If the problem persists, contact Apple Support through the support options on your device.
If you can see a price but payment fails, check whether your payment method works with the account's storefront, whether your billing details are complete, and whether verification or outstanding charges are pending. Don't submit the purchase repeatedly. Check your purchase history or receipt to confirm the transaction status before trying again.
- Note whether the failure occurs during search, page loading, verification, payment, or installation.
- Record the full error message, device model, system version, and time of the check so the issue can be reproduced.
- When contacting support, hide your account email, payment details, and personal information on the order. Never share your password, verification code, or existing subscription links.
5. Retest one change at a time; don't alter connection settings unnecessarily
After each check, retest using the product page for the same app ID. Don't change the storefront, content restrictions, and network at the same time; even if the issue goes away, you won't know why. The sequence below is for troubleshooting, not an automatic fix.
Home, Config, Settings, and the Proxy, Direct, Config, and Scene options under Global Routing in Shadowrocket are client settings for after the app is obtained; they don't change the Apple Account storefront. Settings → On Demand controls connection triggers, not App Store purchases or age ratings. There's no need to troubleshoot these settings before obtaining the app.
If the device already has connection settings and the App Store can't connect at all, you can briefly disconnect the current VPN and compare results, provided this won't interrupt anything essential. This only tests network connectivity: even if the page loads afterward, it doesn't mean the account's storefront or purchase eligibility has changed. Don't delete existing configurations or subscriptions to restore App Store access.
Bottom line: verify the change by checking the page
Record what you changed and how the message changed each time. If a region message becomes a payment verification prompt, troubleshooting has moved to the next stage: check the account's transaction status instead of changing the device region again.
6. Follow different steps for previous and first-time purchases
If you've purchased Shadowrocket before, first confirm that Media & Purchases is signed in to the original purchasing account, then check Apps or Purchased on the App Store account page. The path may vary by system version. If you hid the purchase, check the relevant list as well. Empty search results alone do not prove that your purchase history is missing.
- Purchase history exists, but you can't get the app again: Note the product page message and check the storefront, compatibility, and account status. Getting it again still depends on factors such as current storefront availability, so success cannot be guaranteed.
- No purchase record found: First check which account is associated with the original receipt; don't immediately pay again. Family Sharing availability depends on the App Store listing and family settings.
- First-time purchase: Verify the developer, official icon, app ID, and current price before paying through the App Store. A one-time client purchase is not a service plan. Check any existing provider or subscription issues separately after obtaining the client.
If you've completed these checks and still can't identify the cause, tell Apple Support the purchasing account's storefront, product ID, device system, and full error message. This helps distinguish storefront availability from account restrictions or transaction issues without repeatedly changing unrelated client settings.
